It that time of year again for the RC MONSTER TRUCK SHOOTOUT! If you are anywhere near Chesterfield VA Actually let me back that up a bit. If you are able to travel and are a fan of RC Monster Trucks you absolutely need to make the pilgrimage to this event put together by Showtime RC Motorsports. This is scheduled to be one of the largest Monster Truck events this year. We have had the pleasure of speaking with Rafael Cox one of the partners behind showtime and talked about the event, how he got into RC and a special truck he put together just for the second annual showdown.
RCHUB: When did this RC obsession start for you?
Rafael Cox: When I was a kid I always used to see my brother working on his Tamiya Clodbuster and I said to myself ow this thing is awesome but I was too young for mom and dad to buy me one like that, so I would challenge him with my radio shack version of a Monster Truck /p>
RC HUB: How did Showtime RC Motorsports come about?
Rafael Cox: My Brother Marlon Cox was my inspiration behind RC Motorsports. The both of us have been HUGE Monster Truck fans since we first laid eyes on them many years ago.
RC HUB: Are you into other types of RC?
Rafael Cox: We both have tried many different types of RC racing but we always seem to come back to these awesome Solid Axle Monster Trucks. We e always looked at the real drivers as Heroes and it would be a dream come true to climb inside a real truck one day.
RC HUB: Do you guys do any other events besides from your showdown?
Rafael Cox: Yes we are both into racing regularly and travel all over the US to compete. Me and my brother Marlon created Showtime RC Motorsports out of our love for the sport with hopes to get more people into it. We were recently invited to Las Vegas by Zombie Driver Bari Musawir to compete in the first ever RC World Finals in Sam Boyd Stadium.
RC HUB: How many trucks are expected at your event this year?
Rafael Cox: Last year we had over 50 truck entries maybe 35 drivers and many more spectators
I can almost guarantee the entries will be close to 100 or more this year!
RC HUB: Anything special planned for people competing?
Rafael Cox: I will be making goodie bags this week Each one will have an issue of RC car action magazine, a participation plaque, decals from all our sponsors.
Axial gave us two rtr axial kits, Proline gave us their newly designed monster truck wheels and tires, 505rc has donated a rtr Redcat ground pounder, Rc4wd has donated tires shirts and other items. Swms has given us a huge discount on the popular KK2 Monster truck chassis.
